About Sixteen
Sixteen is an independent editorial site about a single sneaker: the Air Jordan XVI, released in 2001. We publish honest reviews of the shoe — fit, comfort, materials, and the famous removable shroud — alongside carefully checked writing about its design story and its place in sneaker history.
Why one shoe?
Because the XVI deserves better than a paragraph in a listicle. It was the first flagship Air Jordan designed after Tinker Hatfield’s legendary run, it arrived during Michael Jordan’s Washington Wizards chapter, and its convertible design was genuinely ambitious — and genuinely divisive. A shoe with that much going on earns a closer look than “the weird one with the cover.”
How we write
- Reviews first, honestly. If the shroud pops loose, we say so. If the patent leather creases, we say so. We have no inventory to move and no incentive to flatter the shoe.
- Accuracy over completeness. Release details, dates, and product codes are stated only when we’re confident in them; where the record is murky — and for a 2001 shoe, it often is — we say “reportedly” or we leave it out. We would rather be vague than wrong.
- The XVI only. Other Air Jordan models come up only when the XVI’s story requires it.
- Nothing for sale. No store, no product listings, no checkout, no affiliate links, no “where to buy” pushes. We are not a retailer and we don’t monetize your click.
